Today marks the 6th year since the 2001 Islamic Attacks on America. Some call this day an “Anniversary” of 9/11. But an anniversary is a day to remember joyful events, such as a Wedding. Not so with 9/11. This date should burn into the hearts of the American people, as a day Never to be repeated. Even though we know it likely will be repeated in some way.
Of the many vivid aspects of that day, one stands out to me in particular. It is the aspect of total Surprise. A surreal dream-like response to impossible images on the television: “This can’t be happening to us. Not here in America.” It was Surprise on a Massive scale. The sheer magnitude of the attack seemed too great to comprehend. It was more than just a military attack, designed to inflict as many casualties as possible. It was a violation of the very atmosphere of our society, of who we are. Our peaceful aura of American safety was decimated on live TV. Again, the Surprise of it all was beyond most Americans ability to comprehend. One day, a Trumpet blast will split the entirety of earth’s atmosphere. Every ear will hear it and every eye will see it. It will surprise everyone – some more than others. It will be massive in scale, worldwide in fact. It may well be caught on TV, although it won’t really matter - as every knee will bow and TV will be the last thing on our minds. When Jesus Christ returns, it will be something that, up to that point was Unreal. Yet it will become suddenly Real before our eyes in a moment. 9/11 may be the closest thing we’ve ever experienced to the suddenness and surprise the Day of the Lord will bring. Somehow the events of 9/11 make it easier for us to believe that something massive and sudden can really happen. It is time for us to turn from sin and prepare. It’s time to speak to people who need to hear the Gospel. Now even a non-believer can understand, on some level, how a large scale surprising event could actually take place in their lifetime. "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Cor 15:52

Last month, a Hindu priest was invited by Senator Harry Reid to pray before the Capitol opened for daily business. He sprinkled water from the Ganges river around the US Senate and prayed to a false God from the podium. A family of three Christian Americans happened to be sitting in the balcony, observing their Senate while on a trip to the Nation’s Capitol. As Hindu clergyman Rajan Zed began to speak, the father of the family stood up and prayed “Lord have mercy on our Nation. We have no other God’s before You. You are the One true and living God.” Security personnel swiftly nabbed the father and hurried him out of the gallery. The man’s wife then stood and continued the prayer, but was quickly silenced in turn by security. Finally the daughter prayed aloud: “Lord Jesus, forgive us for betraying You – the only One who can save us from our sins.” All three – Father, mother, and daughter – were arrested. You may recall that I had Rusty Thomas on the radio program just after this family was arrested. Rusty is a colleague of theirs, and gave us the details live on the air. These folks were all in Washington DC to lobby their legislators against the sinister “Hate Crimes Bill”. By Providence, their court date is September 11, 2007. Will America see God’s mercy in the days to come, or His judgment? The decision of this Washington DC court may well move God’s hand one way or the other. Joshua said “Choose you this day whom you will serve…” Has America officially chosen to serve false Gods – while arresting those who stand up for the One True God? We will see. Remember: our Founders fought and died for this nation to be established on Christian truth. And oh yeah... Did I mention? Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who was ousted for refusing to remove the 10 Commandments from his courthouse, will be serving the Pavkovic family as counsel when they stand before the court. Let’s keep Ante, Kathy, and their daughter Christian Pavkovic in our prayers, as well as Judge Roy Moore. And remember the Court Date: September 11th. |
